UNE takes second at RWU Invitational

BRISTOL, R.I. -- The University of New England women's swimming team placed 2nd out of seven institutions at the Roger Williams University Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 15).

Pending some upcoming scoring corrections, the Nor'easters totaled 336 points to finish behind only the host Hawks (821) and ahead of third-place Regis College (210).

UNE's top solo showing came in the form of a 3rd-place effort by April Falstad in the 100-freestyle (58.64). The Nor'easters chalked up three 4th-place results, including Elli Donovan, also in the 100-free (1:00.83), Annika Doeppers in the 100-breaststroke (1:15.44), and Katie Durrua in the 100-butterfly (1:07.34).

Olivia Roy was just 0.10 behind Durrua in the 100-fly (1:07.44) to touch the wall 5th, and another 5th came from Doeppers in the 500-freestyle (5:46.94).

Similar to the 100-free, Falstad and Donovan claimed 5th (2:12.55) and 6th (2:13.09), respectively, in the 200-freestyle. Donovan's team-best third top-seven result came in the 50-freestyle (27.66).

UNE captured 2nd in all three relays, generating its largest chunks of points. In the 200-medley, Eloise Ring led off for Doeppers, Durrua, and Donovan as the group clocked 2:03.15. Falstad, Roy, Ring, and Sophie Piette produced a 1:51.90 in the 200-freestyle relay, while 4:09.15 was the time by the 400-freestyle team of Falstad, Durrua, Doeppers, and Donovan.

The Nor'easters head for Saint Joseph's College of Maine for a dual meet next Friday.
