BIDDEFORD, Maine – Salve Regina University scored the final three goals of the game in a wild third period to triumph over the #10 University of New England, 8-6, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey action at the Harold Alfond Forum on Monday.
 
Both teams combined for eight goals in the final period which featured three ties and two lead changes. The frame also featured a span of four goals within 1:34 of each other.
 
The Seahawks (13-5-0, 11-3-0 CCC) entered the third with a 4-2 lead, but UNE was able to tie the game 4-4 by the 13:55 mark of the period. Daniel Winslow buried a power play goal off the left post with help from Liam Darcy and Jake Fuss to bring the Nor'easters within one [Watch]. Less than a minute later Fuss redirected a pass from Winslow into the net to knot the score. [Watch]
 
The excitement didn't last long as Spencer Stanley found Mitch Walinski for a score to put Salve Regina back in front only 11 seconds later.
 
The Nor'easters (10-3-1, 9-3-1 CCC) answered right back 37 seconds later as Fuss found Jared Christy for a tally to make it 5-5 [Watch]. Tyler Seltenreich gave UNE its first lead of the night at 6-5 with 10:23 to play as he buried his own rebound. Chad Merrell and Will Spitzer assisted on the go-ahead goal. [Watch]
 
George Sennott put in a shorthanded goal on a pass that took a friendly bounce off the boards and found Billy Girard IV out of the crease to tie the game with 7:19 remaining. Walinski blasted one for the left circle for his second of the period to put the Seahawks in front for good at the 5:36 mark. Cayden Kraus added an empty net tally in the final minute.
 
The teams traded goals out of the gate and the first period ended 2-2. John McLean started the scoring for Salve Regina, 7:27 into the night. Seltenreich slid in to score and tie the game 1-1 at the 8:03 mark of the first. Sennott answered 11 seconds later to put the Seahawks back in front. Austin Morgan was able to draw UNE even with a score with 4:10 left in the period.
 
Kraus broke the tie 38 seconds into the second period with help from Sennott. Seth Benson added an unassisted market later in the period to extend the Salve Regina lead to two after 40 minutes of action.
 
The Seahawks outshot UNE by eight over the first two periods, but the Nor'easters had a 21-6 margin in the third and 34-27 on the night.
 
Nicholas Latinovich made 28 saves in the victory. Girard IV had 19 stops for the Nor'easters.
 
UNE is back on the ice at home tomorrow night against Wentworth at 6 p.m.
