#12 UNE rallies to edge Salve Regina, 3-2

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. Chris Jones scored a power play goal with 9:25 to play as the #12 University of New England rallied past Salve Regina, 3-2, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey action on Monday.
 
Jones put in the game-winner with help from Tyler Seltenreich and Alex Sheehy as the Nor'easters (9-2-1, 8-2-1 CCC) battled back from two one-goal deficits.
 
Salve Regina (11-5-0, 9-3-0 CCC) struck first at the 12:02 mark of the first period on a goal by George Sennott. Chad Merrell answered back for UNE with two minutes left in the period. Geordan Buffoline and Shea Courtmanche assisted on the tying goal.
 
The Seahawks grabbed the lead again as John McLean found Seth Benson for a power play tally 1:31 into the second period. Daniel Winslow responded with an unassisted power play goal to tie the game 2-2 after two periods.
 
Shots favored Salve Regina 33-31 on the night. Billy Girard IV made 31 saves for the Nor'easters. Nicholas Latinovich had 28 saves for the hosts in defeat.
 
UNE returns to the ice on Friday night against Wentworth at Allied Veterans Rink in Everett, Mass. at 7 p.m.
