Huskies turn away Nor’easters, 3-1

GORHAM, Maine – Madison Chagnon scored two goals to turn around an early deficit and lead the University of Southern Maine past the University of New England, 3-1, in a non-conference women's ice hockey tilt at USM Ice Arena on Tuesday evening.
 
The Nor'easters got on the board first with 1:45 to play in the opening period as Meghan Hamilton scored for the second straight game.
 
Chagnon put in her first of the night to tie the game 1-1 early in the second period with help from Brianna Doty. She put the Huskies in front for good 3:10 into the third period with an power play goal, her team-leading seventh tally of the season.
 
Ally Stymiest scored on a power play with 3:55 to play to extend the advantage out to 3-1. Shannon Douglas and Shannon Colbert assisted on the final goal.
 
Southern Maine (9-7-0) outshot UNE (4-9-1) by a slim 38-36 margin. Haley McKim made 35 saves to earn the victory in net. Delanie Corcoran also had 35 stops in the loss.
 
The Nor'easters return home on Friday night for the 6th Annual Teddy Bear Toss against Curry at 7 p.m.
