MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Emma Breen scored with 8.4 seconds remaining in regulation to erase a two-goal deficit and send the game into overtime as The University of New England and Salve Regina University played to a 2-2 tie in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's ice hockey action on Saturday night at St. George's Rink.
The Nor'easters led 2-0 early in the third period after goals by
Piper Desorcie and
Meghan Hamilton. Desorcie put in a loose puck after a scramble in front of the net to give the Nor'easters a 1-0 advantage in the second period.
Meghan Hamilton extended the advantage to 2-0 with 15:14 to play in the third period. Both of the UNE goals were scored on a power play.
Emma Gotthelf cut the deficit in half for the Seahawks with 12:40 remaining. Maddie Cox found Breen for a blast from near the blue line that found the back of the net in the closing seconds to send the game into overtime.
Each team had two chances in the extra period. UNE held a 37-25 advantage in shots on goal on the night.
Madison Jalbert had 35 saves for the Seahawks while
Delanie Corcoran made 23 stops for the Nor'easters.
