Polar Bears top Nor’easters, 5-1

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Bowdoin College scored four straight goals over the final two periods to skate to a 5-1 victory over the University of New England in non-conference women's ice hockey action at Watson Arena on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Jane McCarter started the scoring for the Polar Bears with her first of two goals on the day at the 12:21 mark of the first period. Maeve Crehan and McKenna Remillard assisted on a power play goal by Carolyn Curley to even the game 1-1 late in the period.
 
Each team had eight shots in the first period, but Bowdoin held a 29-12 advantage the rest of the way. Gia Massari put Bowdoin in front for good with a marker 2:54 into the second period off helpers from Rachel Potoker and Elsa Cassidy. Izzi Stoddard gave the Polar Bears a 4-1 lead with a tally just over two minutes later.
 
Angelina Joyce added to the advantage to begin the third period. McCarter added her second goal with 12:57 to play for the final tally.
 
Sally Solotaroff-Webber made 19 saves for the Polar Bears. Delanie Corcoran played 45:09 for UNE in goal and stopped 27 shots. Kaleigh Laurendeau had five saves and one goal allowed over the final 14:51.
 
The Nor'easters return home for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup against Salve Regina on Friday night at 7 p.m.
