Statistics

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Bailey Lynch finished a loose ball from a scramble in front right as the 3rd quarter expired to give the University of New England a 1-0 triumph over No.16 Massachusetts Institute of Technology in field hockey action Saturday (Sep. 4) at Jack Barry Field.

The Nor'easters (2-0) now have three all-time results against an opponents ranked in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) top 20, which includes MIT twice (in 3 games when ranked). UNE had previously taken down an 11th-ranked Bowdoin College squad in 2017 (1-0 OT), and dropped the No.18 Engineers in 2013 (3-0).

Lindsay Pych denied all 10 tries that came on-target to post the shutout for the Nor'easters, as the hosts closed the afternoon with a sizable advantage in total shots (25-9) and an edge in penalty corners (16-10).

Juliana Strother had a pair of stops on the opposite end for MIT, which had secured one-goal decisions in each of the last three meetings with UNE.

Three more nationally-ranked foes await the Nor'easters in the next 11 days, beginning with No.7 Bowdoin on Wednesday in Brunswick.
