MANCHESTER, Maine -- Tom Higgins and Marcus Costa posted rounds of 76 to lead a balanced University of New England men's golf lineup to 1st place out of the eight competing institutions in Maine Maritime Academy's Mariner Invitational on Wednesday (Sep. 29) at Augusta Country Club.

The Nor'easters shot 311 to defeat runner-up University of Southern Maine by two (313) and Colby College at 323. It is the program's fourth official tournament victory in records since 1997, following the 2010 Maine Championship, 2010 SJC Queenan Memorial, and the spring 2021 Suffolk Invitational.

Supporting Higgins and Costa -- who shared second place as individuals, with two others -- were Jake Mielcarz at 78 and Rob Prentiss with 81. Colin Casamento was also right in the mix at 82.

John Welch of the Huskies topped the 39-player field with a 3-over-par round of 73.

UNE gets back to work on Sunday to start the two-day USM Fall Classic at Gorham Country Club.
