BRUNSWICK, Maine -- After firing one of the best rounds in recent history during Saturday's opening round of the Bowdoin College Invitational, the University of New England men's golf team officially finished 5th out of 16 teams with the cancelation of the final round on Sunday (Sep. 26).
Heavy overnight rain left Brunswick Golf Club unplayable to complete the 36-hole event as scheduled, making the first 18 final.
The Nor'easters shot 306 to open the tournament -- a +18 that the program had not equaled or bettered since 2015.
The deep field, predominantly of Maine and NESCAC conference institutions, was topped by the 294 of Trinity College (Conn.). Husson University (297), Middlebury College (299), and Tufts University (303) wound up ahead of UNE, while Endicott College and Williams College were next in line at 313.
The Nor'easters achieved their total with a 73 from
Tom Higgins, 74 by
Marcus Costa, 78 out of
Jake Mielcarz, and 81 from
Colin Casamento. For Higgins, it was both a personal low raw number and UNE's fourth-lowest in relation to par (+1) in well over 20 years.
Trinity's Jack Godin was first place, individually, carding a 3-under-par 69.
