KEENE, N.H. -- Lindsay Bruns scored the deciding goal just over three minutes into the 3rd quarter as the University of New England picked up a 2-1, season-opening victory over Keene State College on Thursday evening (Sep. 2) at the Owl Athletic Complex.

The Nor'easters (1-0) struck first on a tally by Georgia Eson 5:40 into the match. The hosts drew even late in the 2nd frame when Maggie Cahoon found the back of the cage.

UNE upped the pressure after halftime and Bruns cashed in on a penalty corner play, with an assist to Jillian Lachapelle. The visitors increased the shot margin from 7-2 to 17-5 over the final 30 minutes.

Transfer goalie Lindsay Pych made two saves in the 4th period for the Nor'easters, who improve to 5-2 all-time against the Owls. Molly Edmark stopped 10 shots on the other end for KSC (0-1).

UNE continues its stretch of four road games to begin the year on Saturday at No.16 Massachusetts Institute of Technology -- the first of seven opponents on the schedule with a national ranking in the NFHCA preseason poll.
