Nor'easters register three medal performances at CCC Championship

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. -- The University of New England wrapped up its first varsity season with a 6th-place finish at the 2021 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Women's Track & Field Championship on Sunday (Mar 2), which was hosted by Roger Williams University at Portsmouth High School.

The Hawks won the title with a score of 147.5, ahead of Gordon College (131.5) and Endicott College (130). Suffolk University (94), Salve Regina University (45), the Nor'easters (34), Wentworth Institute of Technology (1), and Nichols College (1) rounded out the field of eight teams.

In her first action of the year, Jasmine Syed claimed 2nd in the 800-meter with a time of 2:28.14, less than one second (-0.85) behind Abigail Baier of Gordon. Erica Dimmick took 3rd in the 400-meter after a 1:02.57 that was 1.49 off the lead pace.

UNE's third medal showing came from the 4x400-meter relay (4:20.64) of Rachel Pion, Ashley Kelley, Syed, and Dimmick (1:01.82 split). The group was runner-up to the Fighting Scots' time of 4:15.32.

Sarah Kohl scored points for the squad in both the 1500-meter (5:21.69) and 800-meter (2:34.29), placing 4th and 5th, respectively. Sydni Lehr registered 4th in the long jump at 4.57 meters, and Dani Jewell was 5th in the 3000-meter run at a time of 11:44.19.

Finishing 7th in an event was Lehr during the triple jump (9.40 meters) and Pion in the 100-meter sprint (13.78). Pion was also 8th in the 200-meter (28.80), a mere 0.01 ahead of Kelley in 9th. Kelley took 8th in the 400-meter (1:06.23), the same rank of Kailey Uresk from the 800-meter run (2:37.12).

The personal-best times or distances from these Nor'easters at the season-ending meet included by Dimmick, Kelley (400m), Kohl (800m), Uresk, Jewell, Lehr (TJ), and the 4x400.
