BIDDEFORD, Maine -- In place of the in-person annual awards ceremony hosted by the University of New England Athletics Department, we offer this virtual presentation from administrators and coaches to highlight and celebrate the 2020-21 academic year, and this recap of the award recipients.

Caitlyn Irish, Women's Lacrosse ~ James A. Beaudry Award
Irish has been a four-year member of the women's lacrosse squad. She has served on UNE's Undergraduate Student Government as the Natural Science Representative, which has included time with the Budget and Finance Committee. Irish has also been part of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for all four years. The marine affairs major, with minors in both English and writing, has been a Harold Alfond Forum Student Building Manager for the last three years, actively involved with the annual Teddy Bear Toss event and giving back to the United Way of York County.

Nicole Senechal, Women's Swimming ~
Female Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Senechal graduated with a bachelor's degree in applied exercise science. On top of being a Dean's List student in every semester, she has been inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society as well as the Alpha Chi National Honor Society, and has been a member of the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) All-Academic Team. Beyond the swimming pool, Senechal has been active with UNE's Applied Exercise Science Club and Pre-Physical Therapy Club. Just this past Saturday, she received the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award for Applied Exercise Science from the Westbrook College of Health Professions.
Jake Hickey, Men's Cross Country ~
Male Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Hickey is finishing up a double major in biological sciences and health, wellness, & occupational studies. Like Senechal, he has been a regular on the Dean's List, inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma and Alpha Chi honor societies, and has been a member of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Academic All-Conference Team. In his sport of cross country, Hickey has been recognized for combined academic and athletic performance as a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District First Team selection, and has landed U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team status on two occasions. In mid-April, he was also presented as the Senior of the Year during the University's ULEAD Awards Ceremony.
