HYDE PARK, Mass. -- First-year Jake Mielcarz led the way with an 81 as the University of New England men's golf team captured the three-team Suffolk University Invitational with a score of 341 on Thursday (Apr. 8) at George Wright Golf Club. It was the program's first tournament victory since 2010 (twice), after 16 runner-up finishes in competition since.

The Nor'easters edged Wentworth Institute of Technology by just one stroke (342), and the host Rams by eight (349). Suffolk's Cameron Sinopoli was the individual medalist on the par-70 track with a score of 80, and Mielcarz was alone in second place.

UNE's total was completed by an 85 from Hunter Drew, an 86 by Marcus Costa, and 89 out of Thomas Higgins. Both Mielcarz and Higgins opened with 40 on the front side, while Drew and Costa closed strong on the back with 36 and 39, respectively.

The Nor'easters are back in action Tuesday at the Endicott College Invitational.
