BIDDEFORD, Maine – Roger Williams University shutout the University of New England in the second half on its way to a 21-7 victory in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's lacrosse action at UNE Blue Bolt Field on Saturday afternoon.
Seven Hawks registered multi-goal outings, led by Lily Cunningham with four tallies. Mandy Beck, Lauren Flahive and Ryleigh Cavanaugh each scored three goals.
Molly Camelo had three goals and
Anna Stowell added two to pace the Nor'easters.
Campbell Haller and Nikki Norton put the Hawks in front 2-0 early. Camelo took the ensuing draw right to the goal to trim the deficit to one at the 24:24 mark of the opening half.
With 10:41 to play in the first, Cavanaugh scored her third of the day to give the visitors a 10-4 lead, matching their largest of the half. The Nor'easters (1-1, 1-1 CCC) mounted a small comeback, pulling within four with 2:01 left with goals by Stowell,
Nicole Corriveau, and Camelo. The Hawks led 12-7 at the break.
Roger Williams held UNE scoreless in the second half, improving to 3-0 on the year overall and in CCC play.
The Hawks outshot the Nor'easters 41-16 on the day, including 31-12 on goal. Beck picked up a game-high seven ground balls. Stowell had three ground balls and two caused turnovers to lead UNE.
Hannah Goodwin made five stops in goal to earn the victory.
Madison Bruzzese had 10 saves and six ground balls for the Nor'easters.
UNE is back in action at home on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. against Wentworth.
