BIDDEFORD, Maine --
Katie Durrua won three events for the University of New England women's swimming team in a 162-82 women's swimming victory over Saint Joseph's College of Maine in virtual meet on Saturday (Mar. 13). Both sides swam at their own pool before the results were combined to produce scores.
The Nor'easter rookie captured the 200-yard individual medley (2:30.84), the 100-butterfly (1:08.63), and the 50-butterfly (29.96). Durrua narrowly edged teammate
Kelsey Moulton in the 50 fly (+0.04).
Moulton (35.31 in 50-breaststroke) was one of four other UNE swimmers to touch the wall first in races.
Blake Boulia posted a 1:25.86 in the 100-breaststroke to win by 0.39 seconds,
Olivia Roy logged a 1:10.85 in the 100-backstroke, and
Korianne Moore earned first-place points for a 32.34 in the 50-backstroke.
Kheara Zito was just 0.15 off the pace set by Moore in the 50 back. Roy also had a close second behind the Monks' Ali Beauregard in the 100-individual medley (1:10.91; -0.76).
Beauregard topped Saint Joseph's with three wins, including the 50-freestyle and 100-freestyle. Brooke Podsiadlo added two triumphs for the Monks in the 200-freestyle and 500-freestyle.
The 200-medley relay squad of Moulton, Roy, Zito, and
Sophie Piette swam to a UNE victory with 2:07.69, while SJC finished with a slim margin (+0.43) in the 200-freestyle relay against Moore,
Sarah Dalton,
Haleigh Kology, and Durrua (2:00.43).
The Nor'easters will have a fourth and final virtual meet -- a multi-team invitational -- starting Friday (5:30 p.m.) and carrying over into next Saturday (11:30 a.m.).
