#12 UNE surges past Western New England, 6-1

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Aaron Aragon provided two goals and an assist as #12 University of New England stormed past Western New England University, 6-1, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey matchup on Saturday night.
 
The Nor'easters have won their last five games and improve to 7-1-1 overall and 6-1-1 in conference play.
 
UNE dominated from the opening face-off, scoring three goals in the first period. Daniel Winslow started with his sixth goal of the season 4:57 into the night. Aragon and Jamey Zanca helped on the early score. Aragon followed with his first marker of the night at the 8:36 mark of the period.
 
Ryan Kuzmich put the Nor'easters in front 3-0 with just over a minute until remaining in the first. The first-year is off to hot start, scoring a goal in four of his first five games including a multi-goal game to begin his career.
 
Jared Christy made it 4-0 late in the second period with help from Collin Heinold and Jake Fuss. Western New England broke through 3:07 before intermission on a score by Shane Miller.
 
UNE was able to extend its lead with two goals in the third. Christy found Aragon for his second of the night at the 7:10 mark. Liam Darcy also assisted. Fuss added a power play goal with a helper by Austin Morgan and another by Christy to close the scoring.
 
Billy Girard IV earned the victory in net with 23 saves. Peter Ciccarelli made four stops in relief. Anthony Aureliano had 29 saves for the Golden Bears, who are now 4-7-0 overall and 2-6-0 in league action.
 
The Nor'easters will play their final game of 2021 next Saturday at Wentworth at 5 p.m.
