#11 Nor’easters enter break with 3-1 victory at Wentworth

EVERETT, Mass. – #11 University of New England earned a 3-1 victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey action on Saturday at Allied Veterans Rink.
 
After a scoreless first period in which the Nor'easters (8-1-1, 7-1-1- CCC) held a slim 11-9 advantage in shots, Shea Courtmanche put UNE on the board with 6:02 to play in the second period with the first goal of his career. Ryan Kuzmich and Jimmy Elser assisted on the opening score.
 
Austin Morgan scored a short-handed goal, with help from Tyler Glennon, 7:56 into the third period to give the Nor'easters a 2-0 lead. George Weiner trimmed the deficit in half for Wentworth with 8:35 remaining, but UNE was able to put the game out of reach as Jared Christy found the back of the net with 2:43 to play. Assists on the play went to Daniel Winslow and Collin Heinold.
 
Shots were even at 29 each on the night. Billy Girard IV earned the victory in net with 28 saves. Will Oliver stopped 26 shots in the loss for Wentworth, which falls to 3-8-2 overall and 2-6-1 in conference play.

With the result, Nor'easter head coach Kevin Swallow picked up his 100th win at UNE. In the midst of his 7th season (including a very abbreviated 2020-21), Swallow has led the squad to a 100-39-14 mark.
 
UNE is off until Saturday, Jan. 1 when it plays Williams in the Northfield Saving Bank Tournament hosted by Norwich University in Northfield, Vt. Puck drops at 4 p.m.
