Jake Fuss scored a power-play goal in the final seconds of the second period at help the #14 University of New England past Nichols College, 2-1, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's hockey matchup at the Harold Alfond Forum on Saturday evening.
The Nor'easters (2-0, 2-0 CCC) outshot the Bison by a large margin all night (41-19), but were unable to break through until 16:28 into the second period on a goal by
Jared Christy. Christy received a pass from
Daniel Winslow near the blue line, skated past one defender and buried a long shot to the right corner.

Jake Fuss put in a rebound off a shot from
Chris Jones with 8.2 seconds left in the second to put UNE in front 2-0 after two.

Gabe Temple redirected a shot from Philip Bjorkman at the 11:32 mark of the third to trim the deficit in half for the Bison.
Billy Girard IV was able to keep Nichols off the board the rest of the way. He finished with 18 saves to pick up his second victory in net in as many nights.
Korbinian Lutz made 39 stops in the loss for Nichols who falls to 1-2-1 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play.
Tensions ran high all game as the teams combined for 74 penalty minutes.
The Nor'easters face a tough early-season test next weekend with two games against #9 Endicott beginning on Friday in Beverly, Mass. at 7 p.m.
