BIDDEFORD, Maine –
McKenna Remillard scored the game-winner early in the third period as the University of New England battled back from an early deficit to defeat Nichols College, 3-2, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's ice hockey action on Friday.
Kaci Johnson scored from the right circle on a two-on-one for the Bison (2-1, 0-1 CCC) early in the second period to put the visitors in front, 1-0, at the 17:21 mark.
Bella Crugnale answered back for UNE (1-1, 1-0 CCC) with 5:27 to play in the period. After corralling a loose puck in the Nor'easters defensive zone, she skated to the blue line and launched a shot past an unexpecting Nichols goaltender to the top left corner to knot the game at one.

UNE began the third period on a power play after a late tripping penalty by the Bison.
Carolyn Curley made the most of the extra skater and buried a rebound off a shot by Remillard to put the Nor'easters in front less than a minute into the period

Megan Hamilton poked the puck free at the blue line ahead to Remillard who extended the Nor'easter advantage to 3-0 with a breakaway goal with 11:47 to play.

Nichols pulled it goaltender with just over two minutes remaining and got one back on a goal by Jessica Gossas-Moberg with 1:10 remaining. The Bison pressured the UNE defense for the final second, but were unable to tie the game late.
Delanie Corcoran picked up the victory in net with 28 saves. Julia Carroll had 22 stops for the Bison who held a 30-25 advantage in shots on the night.
The teams will finish the weekend series tomorrow at Levy Rink in Burrillville, R.I. at 4:40 p.m.
