BURRILLVILLE, R.I. –
Daniel Winslow scored three of the final four goals for the #14 University of New England in a 7-2 victory over Nichols College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey tilt on Friday evening.
Ahead 3-2 with 4:20 to play in the second period, Winslow scored his first of the night off a feed from
Jared Christy. Christy found Winslow again early in the final period to put UNE in front 5-2. After a shorthanded tally by
Tyler Seltenreich, Winslow added the Nor'easters' final goal with 8:56 left to play.
UNE (1-0, 1-0 CCC) struck first as
Alex Sheehy buried a goal 6:33 into play. Quinn McCarthy answered for the Bison (1-1-1, 0-1-0 CCC) later in the period to knot the game at 1-1. The Nor'easters would pull ahead with 3:21 left in the frame on a power-play score by
Aaron Aragon.
Nichols hung with UNE to start the second as Dylan McMahon tied the game once again, but the host would not get on the board for the rest of the night.
Austin Morgan put home the eventual game-winner midway through the second period.
Seltenreich and Morgan each had two points with a goal and assist each. Christy had two assists in the victory.
The Nor'easters penalty kill spoiled seven power play chances for the Bison, while UNE was 1-for-2 on chances of its own. Shots favored the Nor'easters at 46-40 on the night.
Billy Girard IV made 38 saves in the win. Korbinian Lutz had 39 stops for Nichols.
The teams wrap up their weekend series in Biddeford tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
