CHARLESTOWN, Mass. -- Defenseman
Alex Sheehy took advantage of the open ice of 3-on-3 overtime to lift No.12 University of New England to a 3-2 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey victory over Suffolk University at Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Rink on Saturday evening (Nov. 20).
The Nor'easters now stand at 4-1-1 on the season (4-1-1 / 13 points CCC) after the weekend sweep of the Rams (1-4-2), who drop to 1-3-2 in league action, with seven points.
Jake Fuss and
Austin Morgan notched helpers on Sheehy's second marker of the year to decide things in the extra session.
UNE never trailed in the contest, starting off the scoring just past the middle of the 1st period on a goal by
Aaron Aragon, from
Jared Christy and
Liam Darcy.
Suffolk and Devin Lowe struck quickly in the 2nd to even it up, but a power-play tally by Morgan, with assists by Fuss and
Collin Heinold, gave the visitors a 2-1 edge at the 2nd intermission.
Lowe found the back of the cage again, on the man-advantage, nearing the midway point in the 3rd to knot the score.
Billy Girard IV posted 27 saves to earn the positive decision for the Nor'easters, who return home to entertain Bowdoin College on Tuesday (7 p.m.).
Cal Wilcox made 32 stops for the Rams.
