BOSTON, Mass. -- The University of New England men's cross country team placed 17th out of 33 institutions with a score of 488 at the 2021 NCAA Division III East Championship on Saturday (Nov. 13) at Franklin Park.
Under the new regional realignment, the past New England regional championship meet of 50+ teams has been split, and Region I (East) basically includes all of Maine, New Hampshire, and all but the western portion of Massachusetts.
MIT claimed the lone automatic berth into next weekend's national final, totaling 23 with six runners inside the top nine. Colby College (67) and Tufts University (118) were next in line. Colby's Tyler Morris (25:00) topped MIT's Andrew Mah (25:37) for the individual title.
Tony Chase guided the Nor'easters, taking 61st from the field of 236 with an 8K time of 28:05.
Diego Fernandez was a few seconds back (28:24) in 72nd position, while
Chris DeYoung (114th; 29:34),
Kyle Boucher (115th; 29:34), and
Nolan Alexander (131st; 30:03) rounded out the team number.
