UNE takes down New Haven in 7s action

Scoring Summary

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England defeated the University of New Haven by scores of 24-5 and 43-7 in two women's rugby 7s matches at UNE Blue Storm Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
 
UNE started quick with three tries in the first half to pull ahead 19-0 at the break. Emily Ramsey scored the first two and Mackenzie Burke added one. Ashleigh Siciliano put in a score for the Chargers early in the second half to cut the deficit to 19-5. Katie Berger answered with a long run to score the final try for the Nor'easters.
 
In match two, the Nor'easters started quickly again with three first-half tries. Salma Bezzat, Berger, and Liz Cogan each provided offense in the period. Berger used another long run to add to the UNE lead in the second half. Sydney Dela Cruz scored and made the kick to make it 24-7 in favor of the hosts in the 10th minute. Mackenzie Burke ran in for back-to-back tries and Delaney Hansen capped the scoring for the Nor'easters.
 
Bezzat was six-for-11 on conversion kicks, nailing a long-range attempt from a tough angle in match two. Berger finished with three runs of 20, with two in the second match. Burke had a long run in each match.
 
UNE finishes it regular season on Saturday, Oct. 30 at Norwich. Kickoff time will be announced at a later date.
