WENHAM, Mass. -- The University of New England controlled play from start-to-finish in a 2-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey victory over Gordon College on Saturday (Oct. 9) at the Brigham Athletic Complex.
Winners of four straight, the Nor'easters (4-0 CCC) improve to 7-4 overall and have now captured the last 13 meetings with the Fighting Scots (1-7, 1-2 CCC). In the first year of the single round-robin schedule (6 games), UNE stands a half game clear of Endicott College atop the league standings; the two will square off next weekend.
Kate Lindmark gave the visitors all the scoring they would need late in the 1st quarter, finding the back of the net off a feed from
Jillian Lachapelle. It was Lindmark's first marker of the season, and her fourth consecutive game with at least one point.
Despite a considerable advantage in shots and penalty corners, than margin held until the latter stages of the 3rd, when Lachapelle added her team-leading seventh goal of the year.
Lindsay Pych made a couple saves for her second shutout, as her side amassed a 35-3 cushion in shot attempts and a 26-1 disparity in corners. For Gordon, Sophea Zaskoda recorded 26 stops.
The Nor'easters will be back at home to face Wheaton College in non-conference action on Tuesday (7 p.m.).
