Nor’easters race past Norwich, 29-14

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The University of New England went in front 15-0 in the first half and never looked back on its way to a 29-14 victory over Norwich University in National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) women's rugby action at a muddy Dog River Pitch on Saturday afternoon.

The Nor'easters used solid offensive rucking and a dynamic attack as five different players scored tries beginning with Meghan Smith who gave UNE a 5-0 lead early. Alyssa Ehrenfried and Mackenzie Burke added scores to build the first half lead.

Brianna Dargin and Chloe Duchene scored for UNE in the second half. Smith was 2-for-2 on conversion kicks in the final 40 minutes of action.

Fiona Thomas was a powerful on both sides of the ball and made many breaks through the Norwich defense. Kati Whitcomb was quick into rucks and made several long runs. Zoe Henderson and Liz Cogan stood out on the defensive side for the Nor'easters.

UNE returns to action at home on Saturday, Nov. 13 in the NIRA Division III Semifinal.
