SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --
Jasmine Syed and
Kelsee Gladu notched top-10 performances to lead the University of New England to a 2nd-place finish out of eight teams at the 2021 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Women's Cross Country Championship, run at the campus of Western New England University on Saturday (Oct. 30).
Despite being the fourth institution to complete a team score, Suffolk University was the only with three individuals in the initial 11 and totaled 73 to win for the first time. The Nor'easters were narrowly second at 76, with Endicott College (81), Salve Regina University (88), and Roger Williams University (96) filling out the top of the standings.
Gordon College was running in second position through three runners, but ended sixth with 111 points. The Fighting Scots did have the individual champion in Rachel Brennan, who topped the field of 92 around the 6K course in 23:36.
Syed was only 11 seconds back (23:47) of Brennan, booking a third
All-CCC honor of her career. Gladu, in 9th (25:01), earned her first all-league distinction.
