UNE takes 4th at CCC Championship

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Tony Chase and Diego Fernandez landed all-conference accolades as the University of New England placed 4th from eight teams competing at the 2021 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Men's Cross Country Championship on Saturday (Oct. 30) on the campus of Western New England University.

Roger Williams University picked up its first victory in the event since 2014, totaling 35 points to finish ahead of Suffolk University (55) and individual champion Matyas Csiki-Fejer. Gordon College was third with 93, the Nor'easters with 103, and Endicott College rounded out the top five at 130.

Csiki-Fejer clocked an 8K time of 25:00, while Chase crossed the line in a runner-up time of 27:07. Chase now has three All-CCC showings in as many tries during his career; it was the first for Fernandez, who took 10th with a time of 27:36.

UNE's score was completed by Chris DeYoung (29th; 28:40), Nolan Alexander (31st; 28:44) and Xander Vitarelli (41st; 29:07), among the field of 120 runners.

In two weeks, the Nor'easters will compete at the NCAA Division III East Championship at regional site Franklin Park in Boston.
