UNE winds up 6th in state meet

NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine -- The University of New England placed sixth at the Maine Men's Cross Country Championship on Saturday (Oct. 2) at Pineland Farms, logging a score of 181 among the 11 institutions.

Despite a 1-2 showing by Tyler Morris and Ben Mellor of Colby College, Bates College won the event with 26 points. The Mules were second (38), with Bowdoin College (95), the University of Southern Maine (112), and Husson University (167) rounding out the top five in front of the Nor'easters.

Morris topped the individual field of 126 with an 8K time of 24:48 -- a whole 70 seconds ahead of his teammate.

Tony Chase paced UNE yet again, crossing just outside the top 10 (11th) in 26:28. Diego Fernandez (60th; 28:46), Xander Vitarelli (69th; 29:03), Nolan Alexander (70th; 29:05), and Jeff Waters (76th; 29:34) added up the rest of the team total.

The Nor'easters are slated to compete at Western New England University in two weeks.
