Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of Southern Maine scored twice in each of the last two periods on its way to a 4-1 victory over the University of New England to begin the season on Friday night at the Harold Alfond Forum.

Jordan Colbert put the Huskies on the board 8:29 into the second period on a shot from the point that was slowed by Nor'easter goaltender Delanie Corcoran, but trickled into the net. Shannon Colbert got behind the defense and beat Corcoran to the left side to give USM at 2-0 lead at the second intermission.

UNE trimmed the deficit in half 43 seconds into the third period. Keely Kasputis picked up a loose puck in the slot and found the back of the net through a slew of defenders for the first goal of her career. [Watch]

The Nor'easters had more attempts on goal at a 25-23 margin. Haley McKim made 24 saves in goal for USM. Corcoran had 19 stops in the loss.

UNE returns to the ice at home next Friday (Nov. 5) in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup against Nichols at 7 p.m.
