BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England withstood a late push by Norwich University on its way to a 19-15 victory in National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) women's rugby action at UNE Blue Storm Stadium on Friday night.

The Nor'easters (2-2, 2-1 NIRA) found themselves up 19-5 in the 58th minute of action after Alyssa Ehrenfried ran in for her second try of the night. Norwich answered with scored by Anita DiMento and Morgan Butcher to close the gap to 19-15 with 12 minutes left to play.

The Cadets (1-2, 0-2 NIRA) looked like they were going to pull in front as Caitlyn Burke broke away from the pack on a long run, but Meghan Smith was able to chase her down and keep UNE in front. Norwich pushed close down the stretch, but a costly penalty just outside the try line in the 78th minute ended the threat.

UNE took the lead in the 11th minute as Ehrenfried broke away for a try after a long run. Smith converted on the kick to put the Nor'easters ahead 7-0. Fiona Thomas extended the lead to 12-0 in the 15th minute. Audrey Greeno cut into the deficit with a try for Norwich in the 29th minute as the score stood at 12-5 at haltime.

Ehrenfried led UNE with 12 tackles on the night. Emily Ramsey added 11 and Victoria Bowler took down eight Cadets. Emily Ngo (9) and Amanda Lodi (7) led the way for Norwich.

UNE will play its final home match of the season on Saturday, Oct. 9 against New Haven at 2 p.m.
