BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England women's lacrosse team opened its season with an 18-5 victory over Saint Joseph's on Sunday afternoon at UNE Blue Bolt Field.
Anna Stowell scored two goals to go with an assist, reaching the 100-point milestone for her career.
Keara Dwyer led the way for the Nor'easters with five points on four goals and an assist.
Molly Camelo added three goals and an assist.
UNE stormed out of the gate scoring the first four goals of the game. Josie Ring put the Monks on the board for their only score of the first half at the 17:05 mark. The Nor'easters scored the final eight of the half, including a four-goal spurt by Dwyer.
Casey Conwell tallied three scores over the opening 30 minutes as UNE led 12-1 at halftime.
Five different Nor'easters scored in the second half.
Emily Jussaume and
Peyton McKeown each recorded the first of their careers. Jussaume finished with two goals.
Kelli Van Dam,
Caitlyn Irish, and Camelo also provided scoring in the half.
Madison Bruzzese made seven stops for UNE to pickup her first career victory between the pipes. Madelyn Nelson had nine saves in the loss.
Danielle Skinner had five ground balls to go with four caused turnovers for UNE. Jussaume pulled in eight draw controls and Camelo added another five.
UNE returns to action on Wednesday, March 4 on the road at Southern Maine at 4 p.m.
