Nor’easters skate through Bison, 3-1

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England women's ice hockey team scored a goal in each period on its way to a 3-1 victory over Nichols in Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) action at the Harold Alfond Forum on Saturday evening.
 
Elizabeth Walsh scored the first goal of her career 4:19 into the opening period with help from McKenna Remillard and Bella Crugnale to give the Nor'easters a 1-0 through the first 20 minutes. [Watch]
 
Jessie Scott forced a turnover on the far blue line and took the distance as she put in her own rebound to extend the UNE advantage to 2-0 in the second [Watch]. Mel McAleer add her team-leading 11th of the year to trim the Bison deficit to 2-1 with 1:46 left in the period.
 
The Nor'easters added some insurance in the third as a shot by Meghan Hamilton was stopped originally, but trickled past Nichols goaltender Abby Bassett to make the score 3-1. [Watch]
 
Julia Benjamin backstopped the UNE victory with 32 saves on the night. Bassett made 26 stops for the visitors.
 
Both teams return to the ice tomorrow at Levy Rink in Burrillville, R.I. at 7:40 p.m.
