#6 UNE and Nichols skate to 3-3 tie

BURRILLVILLE, R.I. – #6 University of New England and Nichols College skated to a 3-3 tie in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey action at Levy Rink on Saturday night. Ryan Bloom scored the second overtime period to give the Nor'easters two points in the league standings.
 
The Bison (7-11-2, 4-7-2 CCC) started quickly as Frank Zak found Justin Perron for his first of two goals on the night just 42 seconds into play. The score would remain into the intermission. Bloom knotted the game with his 12th goal of the year 49 seconds into the next period.
 
Nichols would pull in front with 2:06 until intermission on a goal by Hunter Fraser. J.B. Baker and Lucas Andersson assisted on the go-ahead score.
 
UNE (14-3-3, 10-1-2 CCC) would take its only lead of the game with two quick goals in the third. Brendan Donohue put one in with help from Alden Weller and Chris Jones to tie the game 2-2. The Nor'easters pulled ahead 1:32 later on a marker by Austin Morgan. Perron added his second with 9:05 to play to send the game into overtime.
 
The Bison were unable to get a shot off in the first overtime period as UNE put four attempts on net, but neither team could put home the winner.
 
UNE outshot Nichols overall 42-28. Ben Churchfield had 25 stops for the Nor'easters. Brett Epp made 39 saves for the hosts.
 
The teams return to the ice tomorrow night at the Harold Alfond Forum at 7 p.m.
