Wentworth upsets UNE, 2-1, to reach CCC Championship

BIDDEFORD, Maine
– Nate Chase scored a power play goal late in the second period to lead No. 6 Wentworth Institute of Technology past No. 1 University of New England, 2-1 in the semifinal round of the 2020 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship on Saturday night at the Harold Alfond Forum.
 
The Leopards (9-15-3) will visit the winner of the other semifinal matchup between No. 2 Endicott and No. 5 Nichols on Saturday, March 7. The winner will receive the league's automatic bid into the NCAA DIII Men's Ice Hockey Championship. [Interactive Bracket]
 
Adam Tracey redirected a shot from the point by Dante Flori past UNE goaltender Ben Churchfield (CCC 2nd Team) to put the visitors in front 1-0 with 9:41 to play in the first period.
 
Austin Morgan scored his 12th of the season just over a minute into the second to tie the game. Justin Dixson setup the goal with a backhanded pass to Morgan in front of the net [Watch]. Georgy Gorodetsky (CCC 2nd Team) fed Chase with a pass through the slot for the game-winner with 3:02 to play in the second.
 
The Nor'easters (18-5-3) attempted to tie the score, pulling the goaltender for nearly the final two minutes, but were unable to capitalize on a few close opportunities.
 
Connor Carbo had 26 saves to pickup the victory in net. Churchfield stopped 20 shots on the night.
 
UNE, ranked seventh-nationally coming into the night, will await a possible at-large bid when the NCAA Tournament field is announced on Monday, March 9.
