McKenna Riley and
Haley Griffin accounted for five of the nine individual wins by the University of New England women's swimming team in a 175-64 triumph against Gordon College on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 1).
Riley topped the 200-free (2:09.58) and 100-free (59.79), before edging Griffin by 0.41 seconds in the 100-IM (1:08.37). Griffin led the way in the 50-free (26.68) and 100-back (1:06.37).
The Nor'easters also received first-place performances from
Nicole Senechal (1,000-free; 12:27.22),
Haleigh Kology (500-free; 5:57.44), and
Olivia Roy (50-back; 32.30), and
Kelsey Moulton was fractionally ahead (+0.04) of Roy to claim the 100-breast (1:20.17).
UNE captured both the 400-medley relay of Griffin,
Blake Boulia, Roy, and Kology (4:34.10), and the 400-free relay of
Maggie Miller, Kology,
Melissa Jakubowski, and Riley (4:08.72), with ease.
Rachael Shek won a couple events for the Fighting Scots, touching first in the 100-fly and 50-fly. Olivia Rose took the 50-breast (36.44) for the hosts, narrowly in front of Boulia (-0.28) and Moulton (-0.31).
The Nor'easters will have almost two weeks to prepare for the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships, which begin on February 13 in Kingston, R.I.
