UNE skates past Saint Michael’s, 4-1

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of New England avenged its first loss of the season with a 4-1 victory over Saint Michael's on Saturday afternoon at Cairns Arena.
 
Kyra Yu found Shannon Nadeau for a one-timer from the blue line on a power play to put the Nor'easters in front 1-0 with 4:32 to play in the first period. Kenady Nevicosi extended the advantage to 2-0 early in the second with a goal from between the circles, her fourth of the season.
 
Jessie Scott added her first of two third-period goals as she flipped a shot over Knights' goaltender Vika Simons at the 16:20 mark of the frame. Saint Michael's answered with a power-play goal from Ella Saracco as she knocked in a rebound midway through the third. Scott added her second late in the period.
 
Tatum Gietl helped on three of the Nor'easters' four goals. Yu also added two assists in the victory.
 
Shots favored Saint Michael's 26-23 overall. Julia Benjamin made 25 saves for UNE while Simons had 19 stops in the loss.
 
UNE is back on the road on Friday, Jan. 10 at SUNY Potsdam at 3 p.m.
