Nor’easters pull away from Kangaroos, 4-2

CANTON, N.Y. – The University of New England skated past SUNY Canton, 4-2, in non-conference women's ice hockey action at the Roos House on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Kangaroos (3-9-1) jumped in front in the opening minute as Ashley Gillies scored off assists by Alyssa Hein and Jordan Emerson. Meghan Hamilton answered back for UNE with a power-play goal with 3:19 to play in the period.
 
Jessie Scott gave UNE (9-2-1) its first lead of the day with her team-best seventh goal of the season. Katie Babineau took a pass from McKenna Remillard and made it 3-1 with her first score of the year just 28 seconds later.
 
SUNY Canton trimmed the deficit to one on a score by Verity Lewis early in the third. Bella Crugnale put the game out of reach with an unassisted goal later in the frame. She finished with a goal and assist in the victory.
 
Shots favored the Kangaroos 34-27 overall. Julia Benjamin backstopped the UNE win with 32 saves. Brooke Susac had 23 stops for the hosts.
 
The Nor'easters return home against Colonial Hockey Conference leader Endicott on Friday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m.
