SUNY Potsdam scores late to edge UNE, 4-3

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Emily DellaNeve scored her first goal of the season with 4:24 left in regulation to give SUNY Potsdam at 4-3 victory over the University of New England in women's ice hockey action at Maxcy Ice Arena on Friday afternoon.
 
The Bears (5-7-0) trailed 3-1 with just under four minute to play in the second period after an unassisted goal by Shannon Upton. Natalie Wasielewski tacked on a score for Potsdam just 24 seconds later and added another in the opening minute of the third period to knot the score 3-3.
 
Following a scoreless first period, Ellie Cleary put the hosts in front on a power play goal at the 15:22 mark. She factored in three of the Bears' four goals, assisting on Wasielewski's first and the game-winner. The Nor'easters answered with power play goals by Avery Lutrzykowski and Meghan Hamilton to build the advantage. Jessie Scott provided assists on both tallies.
 
UNE (8-2-1) was unable to get goaltender Julia Benjamin off the ice for the extra-skater opportunity late in the game. She finished with 33 saves in the loss. Kayla McCabe had 28 stops for the Bears, who outshot the visitors 37-31 overall including 15-5 in the final 20 minutes.
 
The Nor'easters return to action tomorrow afternoon at SUNY Canton at 3 p.m.
