MIT fends off late push to nip UNE, 2-1

Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Paige Forester scored unassisted goals in the 6th and 39th minutes and Massachusetts Institute of Technology held on for a 2-1 decision against the University of New England on Saturday afternoon (Sep. 7) at UNE Blue Bolt Field.

The Nor'easters turned up the pressure in the 4th quarter, out-shooting the Engineers by an 8-1 margin and recording all 12 of the penalty corners in the period. UNE cashed in on one of those opportunities with 3:16 remaining to split the deficit, and Reanna Boulay drove it home with assists going to Kendra MacDonald and Kate Lindmark.

UNE was then awarded a penalty stroke with 80 seconds left, but a violation on the attempt negated what was otherwise the equalizing try.

Grace Moore backstopped the result with eight saves for MIT (2-1), which ended on the wrong side of the shots (16-12) and corners (19-4) totals. For the Nor'easters (1-2), Liz Sargent made six saves.

UNE gets right back to work on Sunday (1 p.m.), entertaining the nation's top-ranked squad, Middlebury College.
