Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Mane -- Emma Stevens scored twice in a span of 4:11 during the 3rd quarter to help No.15 Bowdoin College extend to a 4-0 field hockey result against the University of New England on Wednesday night (Sep. 4) at UNE Blue Bolt Field.

The Polar Bears (1-0) went in front midway through the 1st period when Manveer Sandhu drilled a penalty corner insert inside the left post. UNE, however, ended the opening 15 minutes with advantages in shots (6-5) and corners (7-2).

Stevens poked home a rebound off her own shot to double the margin shortly after halftime, and then redirected a pass from Abby Bashaw to make it 3-0 in the 40th minute. Elle Brine picked up her second assist 46 seconds into the final frame, as Peyton Jackson found the back of the net.

Madde Ferrucci totaled six saves in just under 52 minutes of work between the pipes for Bowdoin, which closed with an 18-9 cushion in shot attempts. On the other side for UNE, Liz Sargent recorded six stops as well, while Reanna Boulay and Amanda Lapar helped with defensive saves.

The Nor'easters, who finished with a 10-8 edge in corners for the contest, return to action on Saturday (1 p.m.) versus MIT.
