BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Kendall Brown scored with 5:52 gone in overtime to lift No.15 Trinity College (Conn.) to a 3-2 field hockey result against the University of New England on Sunday afternoon (Sep. 15) at UNE Blue Bolt Field.
The Bantams (2-1) converted the deciding marker on the first penalty corner of the extra session as Brown drilled it in from the top of the arc, with assisting going to Caroline Curtin and Nicole Quinlan.
Trinity got the scoring started late in the 1st quarter, as Curtin struck from Caelin Flaherty. But the Nor'easters (1-5) pulled even just 76 seconds later (14th minute) when
Nicole Grady hit one into the circle and
Jillian Lachapelle redirected it up over the goalie.
It wasn't until the 51st minute that someone broke the deadlock, and that was UNE's
Reanna Boulay driving home a feed from
Julia Steeves. However, Curtin and Flaherty connected again in the 56th minute to bring things back level and send the game past regulation.
The visitors finished with a 24-10 advantage in shot attempts, and ended up 11-7 in corners. Trinity goalie Emma Cropper recorded five stops to backstop the win, while
Liz Sargent logged 11 saves for the Nor'easters. Boulay and
Hannah Cohen also helped the hosts out with defensive saves.
UNE begins its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) slate on Wednesday with a trip to Western New England University.
