BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Roger Williams University women's lacrosse team outscored the University of New England 9-2 in the second half on its way to a 16-6 victory in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Saturday afternoon at UNE Blue Bolt Field.
The game remained close throughout most of the first half. Two early goals by Lauren Flahive put the Hawks ahead 4-2 with 13:33 to play in the period.
Molly Camelo and
Casey Conwell answered with back-to-back goals to knot the game at 4-4 at the 12:13 mark of the first. Roger Williams scored the final three of the half to take the lead at 7-4 and would never trail again.
Emily Stoeppel, Ashley Warren, and Delana Erickson each had two goals in the second half for the Hawks as they opened an 11-4 lead with 19:10 remaining. Camelo and Conwell were the only two multi-goal scorers for UNE, each adding their second tally in the final 30 minutes.
Erickson led the Hawks (8-3, 4-0 CCC) with four goals to go with two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Warren added three goals and two assists. Flahive had two goals, four ground balls, and five draw controls.
Kyra Taylor recorded a team-high three ground balls and two caused turnovers for the Nor'easters (6-6, 3-1 CCC). Camelo added six draw controls and three ground balls.
Lydia Nelson backstopped the Hawk victory with 13 saves.
Taylor Hopkins made eight saves for UNE.
The Nor'easters visit Curry for a CCC matchup on Wednesday, April 10 at 4 p.m.
