BRUNSWICK, Maine – The University of New England women's rugby team finished in second place at the Polar Bear 7's Tournament hosted by Bowdoin College on Saturday, April 20.
The Nor'easters fell to the hosts, 10-5, to open the day, but responded to win their next three matches to advance to the championship.
Sydney Rees had UNE's lone try against Bowdoin.
UNE defeated Middlebury 21-0 in the second match.
Courtney Mills,
Jenni Laferriere, and
Zoe Adams provided the scoring. Adams was 3-for-3 on conversion kicks. Laferriere added a team-high five tackles.
The Nor'easters picked up a 15-10 victory over Colby-Sawyer in match three. Rees,
Emma Foss, and
Mariah Chase had tries in the victory. Rees was impressive on defense with 11 tackles. A 36-0 win over Colby propelled UNE into the championship match. Foss scored three tries and a conversion. Adams added a try and two conversions.
In the championship, the Nor'easters were defeated by Colby-Sawyer, 26-12. Foss converted a try in defeat.
The UNE B-side team placed third in its tier, opening with a 10-5 win over Bowdoin. The Nor'easters fell to Northeasters 24-5 but rebounded for a 10-5 victory over Colby. UNE was defeated by Bowdoin 12-5 in the knockout stage.
The Nor'easters finish the spring season on Saturday, April 27 at the Norwich University 7's Tournament in Northfield, Vt.
