Nor’easters remain perfect in CCC with 17-11 victory over Wentworth

BIDDEFORD, Maine Molly Camelo recorded a career-high seven goals as the University of New England defeated the Wentworth Institute of Technology, 17-11, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's lacrosse action at UNE Blue Bolt Field on Tuesday afternoon.
 
The Nor'easters (6-5, 3-0 CCC) stormed out of the gates to score the first five goals of the game. Julia Benjamin had two early goals and an assist. Wentworth (7-3, 1-3 CCC) would pull within three with just over 10 minutes remaining. Keara Dwyer and Nicole Corriveau extended the UNE lead back out to five at 9-4 at halftime with scores in the closing minutes.
 
Camelo scored five of the Nor'easters first six goals of the second half as the hosts open their largest lead of the day at 15-8 with 13:53 left to play. The Leopards cut the deficit to four, but would not draw closer.
 
Benjamin finished with five points on two goals and three assists. Dwyer added three goals and two assists. Camelo led the way with 10 ground balls, five caused turnovers, and three draw controls. Brooke Paradis contributed six goals and an assist to lead Wentworth.
 
UNE outshot Wentworth 37-31 overall. Taylor Hopkins backstopped the victory with 10 saves. Lily Kuhns made 14 stops for WIT in the loss.
 
The Nor'easters are back at home on Saturday afternoon against Roger Williams at 1 p.m.
