BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England women's lacrosse team cruised to a 20-6 victory over Castleton on Sunday afternoon at UNE Blue Bolt Field.
Molly Camelo scored five goals to lead the Nor'easters.
Early on the Spartans were able to keep pace with the Nor'easters, scoring back-to-back goals to trim their deficit to 5-4 with 3:44 to play in the opening half. Camelo, who scored all her goals in the first, had two late as UNE took a 7-4 lead into the break.
The second half was dominated by the Nor'easters as they quickly scored eight straight just over 11 minutes into play to put the game out of reach. UNE held a 16-5 advantage in shots in the second and 39-15 overall for the day.
Nichole Carvalho and
Casey Conwell each provided three goals and three assists for UNE. Nine different Nor'easters registered a point in the victory. Emma Best led the Spartan offense with two goals and an assist.
Taylor Hopkins made three saves over the first 45:25 of play to earn to victory in goal.
Katie Babineau made two stops in just under 15 minutes of action. Samantha Hebb had five saves for Castleton.
The Nor'easters return to the field on Wednesday, March 20 at home against #14 Bowdoin. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
