HARRISVILLE, R.I. – Chris Jones scored a third-period goal to lift #13 University of New England over Nichols 2-1 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's hockey action at Levy Rink on Saturday night.
 
The Bison (10-11-3, 8-6-2 CCC) struck first as Matthew Menta found Nate Foster for a goal at the 8:03 mark of the opening period. Liam Darcy knotted the score on a power-play goal with 6:35 to play in the period. Ryan Bloom and Brady Fleurent each added assists on the marker.  Neither team was able to break through in the second.
 
Alexander Vukota hit Jones with a cross-ice pass along the blue line for the game-winner with 13:23 remaining.
 
Ben Churchfield turned away 18 shots on the night to earn his 12^th victory of the season in net. Brett Epp had 33 saves for Nichols.
 
The Nor'easters (17-5-2, 11-4-1 CCC) will host Salve Regina in the regular season finale next Saturday (Feb. 16) at the Harold Alfond Forum at 7 p.m, with the winner claiming the CCC Regular Season Championship.
