Statistics

CANTON, N.Y. – Two second-period goals lifted fifth-seeded University of New England past fourth-seeded SUNY Canton, 2-0, as the 2019 Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) Women's Ice Hockey Championship began with the opening round at the Roos House on Saturday afternoon.

UNE (16-9-1) moves into next Saturday's semifinal against top-seeded Endicott College. Game time will be 1 p.m. at Bourque Arena in Beverly, Mass.

Julianne Sheehan put back her own rebound to get things started for the Nor'easters at the 11:28 mark of the middle frame. Then Jenna Pych found Kyra Yu for a breakaway tally just over three minutes later as the lead doubled to 2-0.

The Kangaroos would not go down easily, as they out-shot UNE 13-6 in the third period, but were unable to beat Julia Benjamin who made 25 saves to earn her third shutout of the season for the Nor'easters.

Brooke Susac had 26 stops for SUNY Canton (10-11-5), which had swept the regular-season series at UNE in late January.
