BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England women's swimming squad used superior depth to pick up a 177-44 triumph over Gordon College on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 2) at the Campus Center Pool.

Taryn Leach secured three of the 10 individual races claimed by the Nor'easters (5-3), in the 50-backstroke (31.18), 100-backstroke (1:08.75), and the 50-butterfly (30.85). Her time in the fly swim was just 0.46 seconds ahead of teammate Melissa Jakubowski.

Kelsey Moulton and Haley Griffin both touched the wall first on two occasions. Moulton won the 100-butterfly (1:13.86) and 100-breaststroke (1:18.98), while Griffin topped the competitors in the 100-freestyle (57.46) and 500-freestyle (5:51.79)

McKenna Riley of UNE and Caris Lyons from the Fighting Scots split two tightly-contested events, with Riley's 1:09.40 setting her 0.16 ahead in the 100-IM, and Lyons taking the 50-freestyle (27.90) by 0.04 seconds. Jakubowski wasn't far off the pace in the IM (-0.28), and Jamie Roy of the Nor'easters was close in the free (-0.65).

Haleigh Kology topped the 200-freestyle (2:10.94), and Blake Boulia led the 50-breaststroke (36.76) with teammate Madison Mahar right behind (-0.13).

Prior to the meet, UNE recognized its senior class of Elissa Kane, Leach, Mahar, and Kelsey Springer.

The Nor'easters will have just about three weeks to prepare for the 2019 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships, which are scheduled to begin February 21 at MIT.
