BIDDEFORD, Maine – Mel McAleer scored twice to lead Nichols past the University of New England in a Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) matchup at the Harold Alfond Forum on Friday evening.
After a scoreless first period, both teams' offenses kicked into gear in the second. McAleer put the Bison in front 1-0 on a power-play goal from the point 6:34 into play.
Shannon Nadeau skated through the Nichols defense and beat Cassandra Goyette for her third score of the season to knot things up at the 9:24 mark of the second [
Watch]. The Bison added another power-play goal off the stick of Jordyn McGuire to take a 2-1 lead into intermission.
McAleer tallied her second of the night with 8:55 to play to put the game out of reach.
After being outshot in each of the first two period, UNE held a 15-7 advantage in the third. Overall, Nichols had 37 attempts to 34 for the Nor'easters.
Julia Benjamin made 34 saves for the hosts and Goyette stopped 33 for the Bison.
Both teams wrap up the regular season tomorrow afternoon at Levy Rink in Harrisville, R.I. at 4:40 p.m.
