SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Mount Holyoke College out-scored the University of New England by nine points in the closing event to pull out a 132-128 women's swimming decision on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 9) at the MHC Natatorium.

The Nor'easters were up by five entering the 400-free relay, but the Lyons teamed Tamara Mukulu, Erin Schrama, Naomi Brown, and Ashton Bliss to clock a 3:56.84 for the first-place 11 points. UNE's group of Haleigh Kology, Haley Griffin, McKenna Riley, and Olivia Roy were right behind in 3:57.87 to get four points, and the hosts clinched the meet with the third-place two points.

Mukulu (50-free, 50-fly), Schrama (100-breast, 200-breast), and Bliss (400-IM, 1000-free) each claimed a pair of individual races, as well, for Mount Holyoke. Mukulu's 29.10 in the butterfly touched just ahead (0.54) of Maggie Miller for the Nor'easters. Lauren Leese picked up the other top result for the Lyons in the 100-fly (1:06.11), edging Roy of UNE by 0.89 seconds.

Kology and Griffin had two wins apiece for the visitors. Kology captured both the 200-free (2:12.41) and 500-free (6:00.70) by less than one second, including 0.74 over teammate Nicole Senechal in the 500. Griffin topped the 100-back (1:05.86) and the 200-back (2:21.22), and Melissa Jakubowski bested the pack in the 100-free (58.48).

The Nor'easters opened the competition with a slim victory in the 200-medley relay (2:01.03), as Riley, Mikayla Sargent, Miller, and Griffin were 0.24 seconds in front of Mount Holyoke.

UNE returns home to face Simmons College next Saturday (12 p.m.).
